I find community events hugely rewarding and great fun to be a part of. Here’s some I’m involved with in the coming few months.

Shareup Soton – 29th September

460x460

Last month we held the first ever Shareup event at Rareloop in Southampton. Shareup is a real world meetup for digital content creators (bloggers, YouTubers, designers, coders etc) to help inspire and motivate regular content creation and sharing. By making a real world commitment to like minded peers and being paired up with a”buddy” the aim is to help ensure we each meet our content creation goals (of which this post is mine!). The first event was a great success and the next one is now scheduled to be held on 29th September at the fine folks at Etch at their newly refurbished offices on Town Quay, Southampton. It’s free, so grab a ticket and follow @ShareupSoton on Twitter.

Rocket jump Bournemouth – 10th October

At Moov2, we organised three trial events to test the appetite of the UK video games industry to see whether there was room for a series of community focused events for games industry professionals. This trial proved to be a resounding success and as such we’re really excited to be hosting our next Rocket Jump Event in Bournemouth. The event is running as a fringe event as part of the excellent BFX Festival which is a week long visual effects, animation and games festival all held at the BIC. Rocket Jump Bournemouth will be on the evening of Monday 10th October and will feature our usual exceptional line up of speakers, games showcase and of course free drinks courtesy of Moov2.

Loads more info to announce on that soon so make sure you’re following @rocketjumpevent on Twitter, keep an eye on the website for news and to watch previous talks.

Barcamp Southampton – 12th November

Along with my co-conspirators in local digital events Etch, we’ll be bringing another Barcamp to the Southampton area. Barcamps are a great way to cut your teeth on giving talks. Known as an “unconference”, the format of a Barcamp event is to turn up in the morning and via a simple post-it exercise we work out an agenda for the day ahead encouraging everyone to give a talk on any subject they like. We did the first Barcamp Southampton last year and I’m very much looking forwards to the next.
